The Bible was written to bring us into relationship with God and prepare us to live a godly life.

2 Timothy 3:15-17 …from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

Men and women are made in the image of God and entrusted to steward his creation. Individually, we are given unique natures, passions and gifts, then called to specific works to further God’s kingdom.

Genesis 1:27-28 So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”
Psalm 139:13-16 For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
Ephesians 2:10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

God sent his son to show us how to love. When we value and appreciate others’ uniqueness, we are viewing them through Christ’s eyes.

1 John 4:9-11 This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.
1 Corinthians 2:16 “…Who has known the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ.
Philippians 2:4-5 Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus.

The Holy Spirit empowers us to live abundant, meaningful lives. As we trust the loving sovereignty of God, even the most difficult experiences in life can lead to spiritual growth and important life lessons.

John 10:10 …I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
Galatians 5:22-25 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
2 Timothy 1:14 Guard the good deposit that was entrusted to you—guard it with the help of the Holy Spirit who lives in us.
Romans 8:28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

As we seek God’s specific will for us through Scripture, prayer, and fellowship with other believers, we develop a deeper relationship with him

James 1:5 If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.
Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.
Philippians 4:6-7 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Romans 15:4 For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope.
Hebrews 10:24-25 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another

When a marriage relationship provides nonjudgmental support, the spouses are free to encourage each other in pursuing their God-given visions.

Genesis 2:18: The Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.”
Matthew 19: 4-6: “Haven’t you read,” he replied, “that at the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female.’ and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’? So they are no longer two, but one flesh, Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.”
Ephesians 5:25-33: Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy…This is a profound mystery—but I am talking about Christ and the church. However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.

We see in Jesus scriptural examples of effective coaching skills such as: asking thought-provoking questions, listening to understand, and storytelling

Luke 2:46-47 (Jesus at age 12) After three days they found him in the temple courts, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. Everyone who heard him was amazed at his understanding and his answers
Matthew 22:41-42 While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them, “What do you think about the Messiah? Whose son is he?”
James 1:19 …Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry
Matthew 13:1-9 (examples of several parables Jesus told to convey truths in creative ways)
Proverbs 20:5 The purposes of a person’s heart are deep waters, but one who has insight draws them out.
